Help Your Flowers Survive the Summer Heat

The summer heat certainly takes its toll on flowers.  While the summer is the best time to see many of them bloom, it’s also a time when your outdoor flowers require a little more TLC.  Here are some tips that will help you keep your brilliant flowers alive during the hot months.

•    Keep your flowers watered.  Water in the evening or on overcast days (if there are any!) to avoid wasting water (it will evaporate during the hot afternoon).
•    Deadhead your flowers after they are done blooming.  This can make some flowers bloom even more spectacularly later.
•    Cut back blooming perennials.  Like deadheading, this can make your flowerbeds look better and will encourage new growth in the flowers themselves.
•    Don’t forget to fertilize your flowers.  Fertilizing your plants during the summer will keep them healthy and blooming.
•    Cover your flowers during severe storms.
•    Bring in any potted flowers during major storms.

Summer Fun in Asheboro, NC

Now that the hottest part of summer is over, it’s time to head outside and enjoy the rest of this great weather!  If you’re looking for a few things to do with the rest of your summer, here are several suggestions for activities in the Asheboro, NC, area.

Now is the perfect time to go visit the North Carolina Zoo.  Going when it’s really hot outside is never any fun, especially when the animals are all lying around looking miserable in the heat.  But as it cools down, they’ll be more active, and it will be more fun for you, too.

If you are looking for a more adult pastime or want to spend time without the kids (many schools have already started, so your weekdays might be free), you can play a few rounds at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club or visit the Zimmerman Vineyards for a taste of their amazing wines.  Want to stay indoors?  The American Classic Motorcycle Museum is a nice way of spending an afternoon in the air conditioning.

Of course, swimming is still a great option for the summer.  The pools will be open for several more months, as will water parks and other amusement parks.

If you’d like to enjoy the outdoors, there are plenty of parks in the area.  There’s also the Pilot Mountain State Park in the area.  Here, you can hike, have a picnic, go cycling, and enjoy the great outdoors.  If you want something a little more exciting, check out the Richland Creek Zipland Canopy Tour.
