April Flowers

Looking for some gorgeous April flowers?  Now that spring is in full swing, you’ll see a lot of these amazing April flowers in bloom!

The tulip is one of the first flowers to start blooming in many areas.  It’s gorgeous, a symbol of spring, and comes in so many colors!

While the marigold blooms in April, many people think of it as a weed.  But the marsh marigold looks very different—it has a yellow center and white flowers, and it’s definitely a pretty, cheerful spring flower.

The cowslip has a funny name, but these cute little red flowers look great in a country garden.

The pansies are a great annual that bloom in April and don’t require replanting every year!

Hyacinths look great and smell every better.  They bloom in several colors and are great to put along your garden path to make it smell sweet.

Finally, there’s the arabis procurrens, a small white flower that has little, light green leaves on it.  It’s different and fun.

Most Popular Winter Flowers

Think there aren’t any flowers that bloom during the winter?  Well, while it’s true that most flowers don’t, there are some that actually thrive during the colder months.  These flowers may not be the most well-known, but they add a nice splash of color to what might otherwise be a bland landscape.

Are you looking for flowers for your winter wedding?  You may want to go with brightly colored flowers, which may be expensive since most of those flowers will be out of season.  However, there are some good options.  How about the Christmas rose, also called the helleborus.  It’s used for decoration a lot during winter, especially around the holidays.  It comes in many different colors, including green, yellow, dark red, and pink.  One variety, the Blackthorn Strain, actually has bright red stems.  Another, the Wester Flisk, has some red on its leaves.

For a wedding near Christmas, poinsettias are a great choice.  They’re easily available, have a good, strong color, and are a little different.  You could even carry a bouquet of poinsettias down the aisle.  Of course, there are some white flowers that look very nice and elegant, too, like orchids, tulips, winter jasmine, and white amaryllis.

Holiday Organizing Tips

The holidays are here!  Are you organized and ready for them?  If not, here are a few different ways you can organize your holidays to take out a lot of the stress.

First, plan things out in advance.  Even though there’s only a short time left until Christmas, there’s still time to get out your calendar and plan out where you need to be and when you need to be there.  Make one master calendar that includes all the events you and your family need to attend.

Second, don’t book yourself so full that you never have a moment’s rest.  Plan a day off every now and then so you don’t get burnt out.

Third, make dated to-do lists.  Write down everything you need to do for each event so you don’t forget anything.

Fourth, don’t go shopping without a plan.  This will help you make sure you know what you need to buy.  It will also help you stick to your budget since you won’t be impulse shopping.

These are just a few tips that will help make your holiday season more organized and less stressful.

Thanksgiving Decorating

With Thanksgiving coming up, many people have started putting out their decorations for the holiday.  What have you been decorating with?  For Thanksgiving, many people pull out decorations from these three categories: fall colors, turkeys, and pilgrims.

Fall colors are the easiest Thanksgiving decorations to find.  For one thing, you’ll start seeing napkins, table cloths, and placemats in fall colors as early as mid-August.  You can use these decorations for several months before Thanksgiving, so they’re very versatile, too.  The different reds, golds, yellows, oranges, and browns can even be threaded throughout your home to give you a cohesive theme.  In addition to items in these colors, you can include pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, branches, pine cones, and fall flowers.

The turkey is the animal associated with Thanksgiving, and as such, it appears on a number of different items.  You’ll find small plastic turkeys, salt and pepper shakers shaped like turkeys, turkey napkin rings, turkeys on tablecloths, and much more.  Some of them are realistic, while some are more cartoonish.  Whichever you like, you’ll be able to choose from a number of cute turkey decorations.

Finally, many people like to include pilgrim decorations in their Thanksgiving theme.  Based on the story of the first Thanksgiving, popular pilgrims are usually depicted dressed in black and white formal clothing, and generally they feature both a man and a woman pilgrim.  Again, some are cartoonish, while others are more serious images.

Many people like to mix and match these three themes.  They might go with solid fall colors for the tablecloth and napkins but add a centerpiece featuring pilgrims, for example.  Be creative and go with Thanksgiving decorative items that match your home and create the holiday look you like the most.

Halloween Decorations

Trying to decide what to add to your home to make it ready for Halloween?  There are many different options out there, from standard skulls and bats to really creative jack o’ lanterns and decorations that make noise and light up.  If you haven’t put up decorations for your Halloween party or for the trick-or-treaters, there’s still time.  Here are some ideas for decorations.

It’s Halloween, the one time a year when it’s OK to decorate with rats, bats, spiders, and other creepy things.  While some of the fake ones look really fake, there are some that are disturbingly lifelike.  Add these creatures to your table, bookshelves, and other places that a little critter might hang out.

Skeletons, skulls, and the undead are also popular.  You can get a wide variety of skulls, for small plastic ones to ones that are human sized.  Some look realistic, while others are covered in glitter.  Skeletons can be hung off doors, hung from your porch, or arranged in different poses around your home.  You can also buy some large, life-size zombies and vampires to include in your decorations.

If you’ve got a vampire, you need a coffin!  And don’t forget some fake tombstones to put in your yard.

If you want to add a little spookiness to your bathroom, look for a shower curtain that looks like it’s been sprayed with blood.  You can also find some clear plastic sheets that have dripping blood on them.  These usually cling to mirrors or windows, but some can be hung on other surfaces, such as on your front door or the side of a shelf.

Don’t forget candles!  If you don’t want real flames, you can get some LED candles.  Many of them look very realistic.

Those fake spider webs can look pretty neat, but be sure not to put them where someone will walk into them.  That’s not fun at all!

Of course, don’t forget to add some spookiness to your table with a bouquet of Halloween flowers in Asheboro, NC!

Autumn Colors, Designs, and Flowers

When the seasons change, most people also change up their décor.  They put out new pillows, change the quilt or blankets on their bed, and even put up some new pictures.  Well, now that autumn is here, it’s time to take a look at the colors of fall and what you can do with them!

The colors of fall are the colors of the falling leaves: red, orange, yellow, and brown.  Some people also add in deep green, dark purple, and even a little bit of dark blue.  Using these colors as accents with the traditional fall colors can really make them pop.  These colors are bold and powerful, so you may want to use them sparingly.

What can you add to your home décor in these colors?  Here are some ideas:

•    Tablecloth, table runner, place mats, and napkin rings
•    Candles, especially ones that use fall scents
•    Gourds
•    Pumpkins (large and small)
•    Pine cones
•    Scarecrows
•    Throw pillows
•    Blankets and wraps to put on your sofa
•    Leaves, branches, and twigs (arranged in a vase, they can look nice)
•    Fall wreaths using many of the above items

Naturally, you may want to add a lot of fall flowers to your decorations as well.  There are a number of different flowers that bloom in the late summer and fall.  Here are a few of them:

•    Orange roses
•    White daisies
•    Chrysanthemums
•    Copper canyon daisies
•    Marigold
•    Mountain Sage
•    Caryopteris
•    Sunflowers
•    Carnations

Parents’ Day

Are you ready to celebrate Parents’ Day?  Parents’ Day is a relatively new observance.  It was created in 1994 by a resolution passed through Congress and signed by President Clinton.  It declared that the fourth Sunday of each July would be set aside to honor parents and their dedication to their family.  It’s a day celebrated by parents, grandparents, and even close family friends who have acted like a second mother or father to a child.  Anyone and everyone who has raised or helped raise a child should be acknowledged.  It’s also a day for these people to rededicate themselves to their family and their children.

Communities around the country celebrate Parents’ Day.  Since it falls on a Sunday, many churches, mosques, and other religious groups spend part of their services recognizing parents.  Some businesses and communities hold a “Parents of the Year” contest to recognize those who have gone out of their way to be great parents.  The National Parents’ Day Council even recognizes outstanding parents on the state and national level.

So what do you do on Parents’ Day?  It’s a day of gathering your family together and simply celebrating being a family.  You can have a cook out, go out to dinner, play games, go to the park, go to the zoo, go swimming…just about anything you can do as a family is an appropriate activity.  If you just want to sit at home and talk, that’s fine, too.

What will you do on Parents’ Day?  How about honoring your parents with some flowers?  We’re delivering our lovely bouquets of Parents’ Day flowers in St. Asheboro, NC.

Great Card Messages for Father’s Day

Having trouble writing your Father’s Day card?  Saying something heartfelt can be difficult, especially if you have trouble expressing your feelings.  If you need an idea for a message, here are several popular Father’s Day card phrases.  You can put your own spin on one to make it more personal.

Dad, you have been there for me all of my life. Thank you for giving me everything I needed and a lot more.

Happy Father’s Day! You have been a great role model and inspiration to me.

Thanks for acting like a kid when I was a kid, a friend when I needed a friend, and my dad when I needed my dad.

I didn’t realize how important it was to have a dad like you when I was growing up.  Now I do.  Happy Father’s Day!

I’m happy to have a dad who is cool enough to hang out with!

Dad, I can’t imagine what life would have been like without you.

Has anyone ever made you realize how much of your life you gave up just to raise me? Thank you for sacrificing so much!

Thank you for helping me become the person I am today.

Some of my friends didn’t have a dad when they were growing up. I’m thankful for you.

You watched out for me, taught me, laughed with me, and loved me.  Thanks for being the best dad anyone could ask for.

Happy Father’s Day to the dad who loved me enough to teach me some tough lessons, even when I didn’t want to learn them.

Dad, you have been one of my greatest influences in life.  You have taught me many things, I’m a better person because of you.

Dad, I think God knew what He was doing when He made you my dad.  He knew that it would take someone patient, wise, and loving to raise someone as willful as I am.

Dad, you are my hero and my role model. Thanks for being there and being such a great example.

If you don’t like any of these sayings, you could tell your dad about a special memory you have of him or thank him for something he’s done that made a huge difference in your life.
